TERM 2, 2018.

Term 2 is the busiest time of our year, as some students continue to prepare for examinations and rehearsals for our performances in June. The studio is full of excited children as they polish their dances and we encourage their input into the creative process. It is often noisy but lots of fun and the children will really enjoy their classes this term.

We are putting out a call for parent carers for our rehearsals & performances so please see you teacher if you can assist.

CECCHETTI MEDAL SUCCESS!: We are very proud to announce that Claire McCormack was the winner of the Cecchetti Gold award for 2018. Along with this she was also awarded the Dorothy Noye Memorial award

We are also proud of Poppy Birkett, Amelia Desteno, Victoria Elsworthy and Sophie Edwards who all competed and should be very pleased with their performances. They all looked beautiful and it was a great experience for all.

We have also been extremely lucky to have 2 students chosen to represent South Australia at the Lucie Saranova awards coming up in July in Melbourne. Sophie Edwards was successful at being chosen as the Silver representative and Claire McCormack chosen as the Gold representative. We are so proud of both girls and this is a huge honor to have 2 students chosen. We wish them both the best of luck!

All details of the performances and rehearsal times will be issued in the next week, but I have listed below the dates of them for you.

1. Full Dress Rehearsal and Photos Sunday, 3rd June at Belair Community Centre.

2. Dress Rehearsal: Friday, 29th June at Westminster School.

3. Performances: Saturday, 30th June (2pm and 7pm) at Westminster School.

Please invite all your friends and relatives. This is a very large theatre and we would love for as many people as possible to come and fill the auditorium to watch our amazing dancers perform. Tickets will be available to purchase online from 9am the 14th May. Website details are   https://www.trybooking.com/VJQS

Tickets are only available online until 9pm 29th June 2018. If available tickets will be available at the door (cash only).

I have noticed there is an error on our Calendar which was distributed earlier this year. Our performance times are 2pm and 7pm.

As mentioned in the past few communications we have decided to go paperless at the studio. Not only for environmental purposes but also that information is at the touch of a button. Please ensure we have your up to date details and check your spam or junk emails as sometimes communication can be directed to there. Notices and important dates are constantly uploaded to our website under the "News" section and mostly on Facebook so please check there as I am not always able to send information quickly.

COSTUMES:  We still require help in all areas of the costuming of students i.e. help with costume construction, hand sewing, alterations and repairs etc. As student numbers have increased, we are desperately in need of people to assist in alterations. Please contact us if you are able to assist.

We are lucky enough to have a wide variety of costumes we have accumulated over the past 35 years which has set us apart from a lot of other ballet schools as this a lot of the pressure off parents. Although sometimes we still need to purchase or make new costumes as our school continues to expand. To ensure we continue to be able to provide costumes to students there is still a lot of upkeep to keep them looking wonderful which require time and effort we charge a small hire fee which you will see on your account for this term.

PARENT CARERS:  We require 1 or 2 parents per class to stay at the rehearsals and care for all students within that class. Carers are responsible for keeping the children quiet and under control, do "toilet runs" etc. Please see you teacher if you are willing to assist.

We cannot have parents other than carers staying to watch for several reasons, the main one being lack of space within the venue and trying to keep the noise level controllable. Keep the performance a surprise!

STAGE REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCES: We will also require parental assistance for all classes during our time at Westminster School. A roster will be posted at the studio for you to place your name if you are able to help backstage. A notice of carer duties will be forwarded to those on the roster as well as badges for identification to be admitted backstage.

PERFORMANCE PARTICIPATION:  As dance is a performance art, we assume that all students will take part in our annual performances. However, it is not compulsory for students to participate. If your child cannot or will not perform in June, it is imperative that your teacher be informed. Once a routine has been set & costumes have been allocated with a specific number of students involved, it becomes very difficult if a child pulls out at the last minute. It also has the effect of distressing the students left to fill in the gaps. Although it may not appear to be, dance is a "team" effort, and all must fulfill their obligations if the team is to succeed.

Students are also required to perform in both shows!

CALENDARS for the Panache year with all dates for the Panache performances and rehearsals and other important events were distributed last term via email - if you missed out please see your teacher or drop email the studio to request another sent.
